Your barbell will rust and the sleeves will be stuck if you don’t maintain it. Here is an instruction to show you how to maintain your barbells step by step with pictures.
Outside Cleaning.
Tools you need:
- Brass Barbell Brush (or any brush you have in hand)
- 3 in 1 oil
- A clean dry Towel

Note: Safety first, Protect your eyes with glasses and your hands with gloves.
Step 1. Brush the barbell shaft with the brush especially the knurl part.

Step 2. Drop some 3 in 1 oil on the barbell and wipe it all over.

Step 3. Drop some 3 in 1 oil at the connection part of the shaft and sleeves.

Step 4. Let the oil soak in for a moment and wipe off the excess oil.
That’s all you need to do for your daily olympic barbell maintenance.
Inside Cleaning
When your barbell doesn‘t spin smooth or even stuck when training. This indicates that you need to take off the sleeves and do the interior cleaning.
Tools you need:
1. snap ring pliers
2. 3 in 1 oil
3.Brass Brush
4. A clean dry Towel

How to Disassemble the Olympic Barbell ?
Note: Safety first, Protect your eyes with glasses and your hands with gloves.
Step 1. Take off the outside snap ring and then the logo plate. Then you can see the inner snap ring.

Step 2. Take off the inner snap ring.

Step 3. Push the Sleeves to the shaft direction and take off the steel rings. Then you can pull the sleeves off.

Step 4. Clean the barbell and add oil on the bearings or bushings.

How to Assemble the Olympic Barbell Back?
Step 1 . Put the sleeve on the shaft and push it until it doesn’t move. Then put on the steel rings. Note: you need to stick the half rings into the groove first.
Step 2. Pull the sleeves until it doesn’t move and put on the snap ring.

Step 3. Put on the logo plate first, then the snap ring.
